Niner Gravel Bike Prototype MCR

MCR Prototype

MCR Niner gravel bike

We’ve all been there. You finish an epic gravel ride and it feels like the ride nearly finished you. After logging some serious hours in the saddle you end up rubbing sore feet, hands and lower back. Sure, the ride was fun while it was happening, but maybe now you’re questioning whether or not your body could handle it again. Well, we don’t think you should have to sacrifice your well-being to enjoy rides that are off the beaten path. No one needs to choose comfort over adventure. Which is exactly why we decided to create a gravel bike that would allow you to have your (gravel?) cake and eat it too.

For the past few years, we’ve been playing with the idea of a full suspension drop bar gravel bike. Last year at SeaOtter, we threw drop bars on an RKT and we even had the first test mule of the MCR built up.  So, with our expertise in off-road bikes, we’ve developed a gravel bike that can tackle the roughest roads without sacrificing performance for comfort. The MCR utilizes Niner’s patented CVA suspension design with a leverage ratio tuned specifically for shorter travel, suspending the whole bike, not just the rider, bringing greater comfort, control and efficiency to the gravel riding experience. This means you’ll be able to run higher tire pressure, which will come in handy when you need to switch from road to groad. No more adjusting tire pressure mid-ride. Worried that suspension will be a drag on the road? No problem, you can lock out the suspension when you don’t need it. And for those of you who are partial to big tires, the MCR can fit a 50mm tire and is 650b compatible, all the more reason why this bike feels like a magic carpet ride.

Look for the finished product at local retailers in 2019.

Fwd: Niner Names, Unveiled. Three 14ers in a day and new Eye-catching colors

WHAT'S IN A (NINER) NAME?
Ever wonder what MCR stands for? How about WFO? Or ROS?
Around Niner, we don't just slap names on bikes. We take it seriously, seriously playful, but seriously nonetheless. You see, bikes are fun and we believe the names that go with them should be too. But, just because those names are playful doesn't mean they magically appeared out of thin air. Read more on Niner names.

(BTW: The image above is from one of our very first photo shoots. Have a One 9 and a smile.)
WHO DOESN'T LIKE A RAINBOW?
When people are told there's a rainbow outside, most will go look. They'll ooooh.... They'll ahhhh.... They might take pictures or look for the magical double. (We get a lot of doubles rainbows in Colorado...) Why? A black and white world is, well, just that and most of us prefer colors. Speaking of colors, here are a few of our new favorites.
ONE MOUNTAIN PEAK IN ONE DAY? NOPE, WE WENT FOR THREE.
(I mean, you're there. Why not summit three fourteeners?)
Sometimes, you get crazy ideas sitting around the campfire, sipping and talking and sipping some more. More often than not, those crazy ideas just rattle around until they settle back down into some part of your subconscious. And then, once in a while, they turn into more than an idea.

A few years back, Brad Cole, Niner's Marketing Manager, had a crazy idea. "Why don't we hike a 14er in one day, ski it and then mountain bike it?" Most of his friends thought he was crazy. Except for one. One, as it turned out, was enough. So, a few weeks back, before the crack of dawn, the two intrepid skiers and cyclists headed for the peaks. (Oh, and it wasn't just one 14er. It was three - in one day.) Read the story.
