Fwd: Niner News - NEW 29+, REVEAL OF THIS YEAR'S IMBA BIKE!

For the fifth year, Niner has created a special IMBA themed bike in support of the non-profit's mountain bike advocacy efforts.  This year's version is a custom painted version of the brand new ROS 9 Plus - a complete singlespeed 29+ bike with special detailing and exclusive components throughout.

"IMBA is stoked that Niner is continuing its support for mountain bike trails and access through such a creative, visible campaign. The money raised will help fund our national advocacy work, which serves to protect and expand access to local trail systems. We handle D.C. dirt so you can play in the dirt," says Mark Eller, IMBA Director of Communications "To all the bidders, thank you! And to the winners, enjoy your new rides!"

AUCTION RUNS 6:30 PM AUGUST 14 - AUGUST 24

The global auction for the 9 (yes, only 9) available bikes begins at 6:30 pm MST tonight, with auction management courtesy of The Pro's Closet. "The Pro's Closet helps us with this auction every year - their international auction expertise makes it possible for riders to support IMBA from almost anywhere in the world." said Sugai.

Riders interested in bidding on the Special Edition IMBA bikes can visit www.ninerbikes.com/imba for complete details, links and more images.

Only 9 of these beauties are available, auction ends on the last day of the 2014 IMBA World Summit. (It isn't too late to join us in Steamboat Springs for 4 days of great riding and IMBA-education!)

Niner Bikes is a decade-long supporter of IMBA, since our very first year as a company. People often ask why Niner Bikes supports IMBA and the answer is easy: IMBA benefits almost every aspect of a good life:

1. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

IMBA protects beautiful places from development, and promotes sustainable, legal management of existing trails. Great trail building keeps watersheds clean, prevents erosion, protects sensitive ecologies and can even prevent the spread of invasive plant species. 1,2

2. COMMUNITY BUILDING

Safe and fun trails mean that everyone gets to have fun! Through IMBA's carefully designed trail systems, beginners discover the sport and advanced riders get the challenges they seek - all in the same location. Mountain biking is a way to bring all ages and abilities together for great days.

3. HEALTH BENEFITS

We in the cycling industry are very aware of the many healthcare challenges that riders face. Luckily, one of the best preventative health measures is exercise. Did you know that every dollar spent on trails benefits the USA via three dollars in health related savings? Imagine how many people that number represents! 3,4

4. ECONOMIC BENEFITS

Both the community and the bike industry see huge benefits from IMBA's efforts. Mountain bikers by their nature seek local businesses, patronize local restaurants and get to know the local towns.

As an example, the trails built in Raystown Lake, PA increased rider visits to the area from about 5,000 to 27,000 annually in just two years. These riders are supporting new bike shops, hotels and restaurants. This influx of new users has also helped to prevent the closure of a local public campground - something that benefits the entire community, not just cyclists. 5

IT IS EASY TO TAKE ACTION!

To that end, we are encouraging riders to take a moment and think about the brands and shops that they love - are they freeloaders or contributors? We strongly encourage riders to support companies that support trails.

We also encourage the 90% of the cycling companies out there who don't support IMBA step up, to join your peers in supporting the land, the riders and the communities that make all of this possible.

As for Niner, we will continue our program of donations and are announcing the start of our fifth annual limited edition IMBA bike auction. Beginning today at 6:30pm MST, we are offering nine complete bikes in the brand new ROS 9 Plus model for global auction. Winners will own the most custom bike Niner has ever produced and 100% of the proceeds go to IMBA!

Good luck, happy bidding and thank you for supporting a future filled with great rides!

Notes:

1 "Working with environmental analysts, IMBA and local volunteers took advantage of an opportunity to combine recreation and habitat conservation. The trails were designed to be sustainable, but also act as firebreaks to deter invasive plants from entering areas of native vegetation. Allow natural resource specialists easy access to densely vegetated areas, the trails became an invaluable tool in stifling the spread of the tree-killing Porcelain-Berry vine. Also, by providing a legal place for dirt jumping, the rampant illegal building that endangered sensitive native understory plants at nearby Inwood Park was immediately quelled.

2 Paradise Royal Trail is a great example of how the trail development repaired damage to the watershed, animal and fish populations.

3 A Shimano study indicates that for every one dollar spent on trail investment for biking, the United States realizes a benefit of three dollars in health-related savings as riders lose weight and get fit [source: Shimano]

4  Although normal bike riding does increase your health, mountain biking pushes it to that extra level of cardiovascular activity through the use of gear variety, bike structure and riding terrain.

ALL STEEL FRAME WITH CUSTOM DETAILS

The ROS 9 Plus is made with 4130 ChroMoly, the go-to material for high abuse applications since the early days of off-road bikes. The tubeset offers the durability and ride quality you want for rowdy rides. Complemented by custom forged 142x12 maxle compatible dropouts in the rear, the frame is designed to resist twist under heavy pedal loads and when cornering and descending. The frame also features high quality details such as internal and external dropper routing, removable cable guides and custom forged seat and chainstay bridges.

CUSTOM 29 PLUS STEEL FORK

What good is a burly, playful frame without a fork to match? Niner has designed an exclusive taper steerer, ChroMoly, 29 Plus-compatible fork with 15mm thru axle, specifically for the ROS 9 Plus. These features combine for sharpshooter accuracy when cornering and descending. This fork also enhances the uphill experience - the maxle prevents brake rotor rub and the 470mm axle to crown length keeps the front end low so that you can get the best climbing position.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Although the short chain stays and 3.0 tires limit the ROS 9 Plus to 1X only set up, we kept the removable High Direct Mount on the seat tube for use with chain guides available for this standard. Additionally, we've worked with MRP, to design mounts for a custom XCG Bash Guard to protect your precious chainrings from rocks, logs and other trail impacts.

IDEAL COMPONENT SELECTION

The ROS 9 Plus is available as a complete bike only, and features the best in 29 Plus and trail componentry from names you can trust. In addition to the Shimano Deore brakes and the SRAM 1x11 drivetrain, you will find a Niner specified wheelset featuring Stan's No Tubes Hugo rims and cock pit that includes the Niner Flat Top Alloy Bar in a 780 width for optimal out of the saddle power and a short trail stem for better descending and cornering position.

NINER STAR BUILDS:

Best paired with Niner's RDO frames, our "spare no expense" 5-Star Builds are filled with top of the line components for the cycling connoisseur or athlete who refuses to compromise.

A careful blend of practicality and passion, 4-Star Builds know where to put the bling and where to get clever when it comes to optimizing performance. Perfect for the privateer racer or anyone who recognizes top-level performance but has bills to pay.

Field a loyal and trusty steed without breaking the bank. Our 3-Star Builds offer the best technical features from each manufacturer with an eye for substance over style. Great for riders who want a sweet bike but know that it's the engine that counts.

A 2-Star Build is designed to get Niner owners out on the trail, happy in the knowledge they got a great bike at a great price. Perfect for riders who desire a taste of how quality components can transform the riding experience.

These introductory builds are lovingly curated to deliver the most bang for the starter buck. The 1-Star Build is a popular choice for new racers and great for a first Niner because it's riding, not frills, that ignites passion for the trail.

Tryon Bikes is located in Rochester, NY, an easy ride to the Tryon park trails, a great place to ride and to connect to Irondequoit Bay Park West system.

The shop also offers one of the coolest programs we have heard about - Wrench Club. For $35 a year, members have full access to a professional mechanic's area, tools and bike wash. Riders are able to work on their own bikes or get advice from the professional Tryon Bikes mechanics.

Tryon is a great place to meet other riders - on Thursday at 6pm join them for a road ride (perfect for RLT 9 training days) or if you are feeling competitive, they also sponsor an elite race team (most of the guys are on Niners, with the Air 9 RDO a local favorite).

Most importantly, Tryon is dedicated to working with IMBA and the local IMBA chapter, GROC, through financial support and time spent working on the local trails. As a local business and bike shop, they know that great trails help to grow the local riding community. In recognition of this, IMBA members receive a discount on their Wrench Club membership.

Tryon Bikes has a wide rang of Niner Bikes in stock - with RLT 9 and EMD 9 bikes not he show floor and JET 9, AIR 9, SIR 9 and AIR 9 RDO bikes to demo!

Mountain Bike Specialists is located in Durango, CO, in the heart of the Southern Colorado mountain bike scene. With access to the best trails the high country (Kennebec Pass, anyone?) and the desert (Phil's World!) have to offer, Mountain Bike Specialists is a perfect source of trail beta, conditions and shuttle information for both locals and visiting riders.

The shop offers free maintenance clinics every spring as well as women's rides and group rides - watch the Facebook page for times, dates and locations. You can even get a personal invitation for a ride if you let them know you are interested. Whether you want to commute to work or improve your racing, these folks are a great resource.

Mountain Bike Specialists is a big supporter of both IMBA and Trails 2000, recognizing that trails help build the community. They build trail, donate and fundraise - ask them how you can get involved.

Folks interested in Niner Bikes are in luck - they currently have the RLT 9, JET 9 RDO, RIP 9 and even a WFO 9 in stock and a ROS 9 for demo. It's also a great place to spot the bikes of Team CLIF Cyclocross and MTB racer, Troy Wells. Rumor has it his BSB 9 RDO was lurking in the shop for a while...
