Our Experience Leads the Way

At Niner, we know a thing or two about how 29ers ride, so in designing our new wheels, we set out to incorporate some key features that directly affect performance and your fun out on the trails. We've adopted wider rim widths for lateral strength and increased tire volume. Higher volume means you can run lower pressures for better comfort and traction, and because the tire beads sit wider you won't have that squirmy feel through the corners. Our offset drilling pattern leads to even spoke tensions, that when coupled with the optimized rim shapes produce laterally stiff and durable wheels. We finished them off with Stan's trusted Bead Socket Technology for easy and reliable tubeless setup so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.

XC Carbon

When you're looking for a new set of XC wheels, and you want something that's going to be light, dependable and fast, the new 1525 gram XC Carbons deliver.

The shape optimized full carbon rim strikes the perfect balance of 30mm width and 30mm depth to provide point-and-shoot control with a smooth, comfortable ride. The Stan's Bead Socket Technology 24mm channel has a low sidewall helping save weight, but more importantly allowing a rounder, more effective tire profile, and with it higher volume for more traction and reduced rolling resistance. And when it comes to tubeless set up, the BST 'socket' shape sets the bar for safe and secure tire engagement.

To compliment the rim, we've gone the extra mile in the build process to make sure you can enjoy every bit of performance. By incorporating an offset drilling pattern, we lace the rims up with 28 Sandvik stainless steel straight pull spokes. This ensures more even spoke tension and ultimately gives you a stiffer, more durable and fast feeling wheel.

TR Carbon

The new TR Carbon wheels open a new chapter in Niner's book of wheel building. Starting with what we've learned from our previous hoops, the TR Carbons incorporate the knowledge we've gained with updated, modern mountain bike features, to create an entirely new platform.

The full carbon rim is specially shaped for strength and performance. The 41mm external width pairs with a 30mm depth to build a bomber wheel that will track straight in the most demanding situations, and stand up to miles of abuse. A 35mm Stan's Bead Socket Technology channel provides a wide platform with low sidewalls that gives your big tires an even bigger air volume and better shape. This means you can run lower tire pressures for excellent traction and a supple ride while still maintaining tire integrity. And if you run your tires tubeless, there is no better system than Stan's BST when it comes to ease of set up and reliable seal out on the trails.

Because these wheels are intended to tackle tough terrain, we've taken measures in the build process to make sure they're up to the task. The rim is drilled with an offset pattern to create better spoke triangulation. The benefit is better balanced tensioning of the 32 Sandvik stainless steel J-bend spokes giving you a stiffer, more durable wheel that will take on any trail.

Chloe Woodruff is no stranger to mountain bike racing. Starting as a uniquely talented junior, she has worked her way up through the ranks thanks to her natural ability, positive perspective and years of hard work. She's won some big races along the way including Amateur, Collegiate and U23 titles, but the crown jewels in her palmares she captured most recently in Mammoth, California at the 2015 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships where she took both the Elite Women's Short Track and XC national titles on her Air 9 RDO.

Her always-cheery outlook belies her competitive nature. Her attacking style of riding was on full display on day one at Mammoth as she charged to the front in the Short Track, making the early selection. Staying on the gas is Chloe's specialty, and that she did as the race progressed. Putting in another surge, she put the hurt on her competition with only Lea Davison having the legs to match the pace. The two women maintained a gap to their pursuers by calling a truce and sharing duties at the front. As they neared the finish line though, all allegiances were off and it was every woman for herself. Through gritted teeth, Chloe dropped the hammer and sprinted to glory. Talking after the race she remarked, "It's pretty special to come back here. I won the expert women's short track jersey here 10 years ago, so it's great to be back. I was kind of thinking that would be really cool to win it 10 years later."

Expending so much energy to win the previous day might have put a follow-up performance out of reach for many, but for Chloe it only whetted her appetite. Obviously on form, she toed the line, laid all her cards on the table again, and went for broke. Her fitness and tenacity served her well as she again battled at the front of the race, this time with Erin Huck. A win was no foregone conclusion, however, as the two dueled throughout the five-lap race. The day would be a nail-biter until the end with nothing decided heading into the final straight. With the finish in sight, Chloe again dug deep to find every last bit of power, and when she put in her final sprint she came across the line a champion.

When you base a bike shop on good service and community empowerment, you get more than happy clientele. Tryon Bike shop has become a fixture in the Northwest New York bike scene, and for good reason.

It all began just seven years ago - in a basement. Owners Les and Russ figured they could provide the kind of service, selection and pricing they always wanted for themselves, and they were right. They've moved up in the world since then (literally and figuratively) and now reside in a hip, repurposed bank building in Rochester New York.

Sandwiched between Syracuse and Buffalo, Rochester isn't the sort of place you'd typically think of as a mountain bike mecca, but the Tryon trail system (from which the shop gets its name) provides a haven for local riders. "It's your typical rooty, techy East Coast single track," says sales manager Andrew Johnson. You won't find these trails on the Mountain Bike Project, but that doesn't mean they don't have a dedicated following.

Tryon is an integral part of the local mountain bike community, hosting group rides and working with local IMBA chapter, the Genesee Regional Off-road Cyclists. Also, unlike some shops, which guard their secrets, one of Tryon's biggest initiatives is their " wrench club," which gives members access to a full range of professional tools and clinics for a small annual fee. The idea is to empower everyone in the community to be their own mechanic.

Tyron prides themselves on carrying the high-end bikes you can't find anywhere else. They're decidedly dirt-focused, but they stock and service everything, even skinny tire rigs. They love hosting demos (including one with Niner on the 15th and 16th) and they'll be helping hype up cyclocross this fall, with the first American race in the UCI circuit being held in Rochester this September.

The idea that bikes should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget or ability, is what makes this place shine. The staff at Tryon is passionate and involved- whether you leave with a new skill or a new bike, they're worth the stop.

The best way to learn about any new bike is to ride it. That's why we have scheduled a whole series of events where you can go  Demo a Niner. Click HERE for a full listing of the most recent dates and locations, and check back often to ensure event details haven't changed..
