RDO CARBON COMPACTION SYSTEM
The BSB 9 RDO is beautiful from the inside out via Niner's RDO Carbon Compaction System. Now used throughout the Niner RDO lineup, this CCS utilizes rigid internal molds and results in tighter, more consistent compaction of the carbon layers, yielding increased precision in wall thickness and significantly reduced resin pooling in the final product, allowing us to aim for better ride tuning, increased strength and durability along with the weight reduction that results from a more efficient process. At sub 1000 grams for a size 56cm, the BSB 9 is competitive in any line up. |
DESIGN
The shapes of our BSB 9 RDO frame are heavily influenced by our long history in carbon fiber race frame design, in particular by our experience in building light, strong hardtails with velvet-smooth off road ride-quality. Informed by, but not slave to, the shaping of the Air 9 RDO - you will find generously sized downtube and top tube shapes for torsional stiffness, with vertical compliance achieved via the flat sections on each tube. Chainstay and seatstay shaping also benefits from our hardtail expertise - they are one hundred percent designed for weight savings and ride quality - something not previously possible in cyclocross when reinforcing for cantilever brakes. Our seat tube fits a 27.2 seat post, continuing the theme of rider comfort and is well paired with the Niner RDO Setback Post for maximum flex and minimum chatter when in the saddle. |

PERFORMANCE GEOMETRY
"Light and stiff, and rides like a dream. I can't wait to get it onto a technical course!" BSB 9 RDO geometry reflects proper cyclocross geometry - a steep headtube angle for fast handling, a size and crank length-specific bottom bracket height for cornering and short chainstays (425mm) for technical maneuvers. Smaller sizes are designed to avoid toe overlap and larger sizes have bottom bracket heights specifically selected to reduce pedal strikes common with longer crank arms. |
PRESS FIT 30 BOTTOM BRACKET The BSB 9 RDO utilizes the Press Fit 30 standard, the larger shell mates beautifully with the larger carbon downtube for elegant looks and efficient power transfer so crucial in a race bike. Additionally, this allows for the use of the stiffer, lighter crankset designs that fit the PF30 standard.

DISK BRAKES AND MAXLE/QR COMBO
The BSB 9 RDO is disc brake only-a natural choice for cyclocross, particularly in foul conditions. Racing frames must also be light without sacrificing performance - the BSB 9 RDO frameset uses a Maxle front and QR rear dropout combo-a design choice specifically made to keep frame weight down and steering precision high. While there were significant advantages in stiffness and steering to be had with a maxle front, there was no noticeable improvement in rear stiffness between the QR or Maxle option, so we've made the lightweight choice for racers. |
RDO CYCLOCROSS FORK
The BSB 9 RDO frame is paired with Niner's new RDO Cyclocross Fork. Niner's award winning rigid carbon forks have set the standard for weight, ride quality and safety for years - we've used this experience to create a cyclocross race fork with the off-road ride quality riders want in their race bike. Fork stiffness prevents energy robbing brake rub and the thru axle plus taper-steerer combo ensures precision cornering on the toughest of courses. The RDO Cyclocross fork is currently only available as a part of the BSB 9 RDO frameset, but will be available individually in the near future.

CYCLOCROSS SPECIFIC DESIGN
Cyclocross demands ergonomic frame shaping and careful details. In addition to ride quality, the bike must be easy to lift, carry and shoulder. Riders will find friendly flats, comfortable shoulder positioning and thoughtful placement of cables to aid in the execution of perfect cyclocross technique. There are no guides inside the front triangle-external rear brake routing on the side of the downtube keeps everything out of the way when shouldering. We utilize full length housing-front and rear-for clean, crisp shifting in the worst winter conditions. Internal routing with large access windows makes for easy mechanic maintenance as well as simple Di2 routing for those choosing electronic shifting options. When you are on the bike, the post mount rear brake helps to prevent heel strikes and brake rub-keeping you fast and efficient. Every size of the BSB 9 RDO fits two water bottles for proper hydration when racing or training. |

FINISH
Even our aesthetic choices were heavily influenced by the race-specific demands of the BSB 9 RDO. In order to reduce weight even further, we've pared the paint down to the minimum, used ultra thin decals and a light satin clear coat for a protective layer. The BSB 9 is available in Black/Niner Red-as raced by Team CLIF Bar Cyclocross and MTB, and in Iceberg Blue.

DESIGN
Niner RDO frames have a happy habit of winning design awards. The reason for this lies in the details-beautiful and purposeful frame shaping, sleek carbon rocker links and low profile, easy to maintain internal cable routing. The baseline tube shapes of the Jet 9 RDO are based on data derived in the Niner test labs-where we put both our own and our competitors products through the wringer. When applied to a set of design parameters, this data also drives our targets for strength, stiffness and damping characteristics. The result-an aesthetically striking form whose curves are functionally derived. Custom carbon upper rockers with a forged alloy lower linkage complete the frame package, and when combined with 142x12mm spacing, test as stiff as possible. Jet 9 RDO riders experience one of the most efficient power transfers in full suspension mountain bikes, period.
CVA SUSPENSION The Jet 9 RDO features Niner's patented CVA suspension (U.S. Patent No. 7,934,739) and delivers 100mm of fully active travel with superb compliance and damping via a custom valved Fox Float CTD Factory shock with Trail Adjust and Kashima Coat. For those seeking the speed advantages of 29" wheels combined with pedaling efficiency across all possible chainring combinations, CVA results in a faster and smoother ride.

Sun Summit South is a small, local ski and bicycle shop located in the east central mountain region of Idaho, 12 miles south of world famous Sun Valley, in the community of Hailey - they've been the local shop for over 20 years. Sitting at an elevation of 5350 feet, Hailey, Idaho definitely enjoys a true four season year. Cycling season begins in mid to late March and most years lasts into the first weeks of November. Operating out of a 100 plus year old refurbished house on Main Street in bustling Hailey with a staff of three, the shop is a unique place with a European vibe. During the winter months, they reserve the right to close and enjoy an impromptu ski outing. In the summer, the shop assumes more normal operating hours from 8AM to 6PM - with an earlier Thursday closing time for the "Thursday Night Ride" (March through October for the last 25 years, call for exact details, departure dependent upon sunset time). The shop is in close proximity to some of the best riding in the USA, with and IMBA Silver Ride Center just down the road. Sun Summit is also very active with the local IMBA trail building group, Woodriver Bike Coalition, and encourages anyone who wants to join them for trailbuilding days to do so. Backyard Bikes and Ski has been in their Wisconsin location for over 30 years. What began as a cafe and health food store has since evolved into a service oriented destination bike shop. At just over 400 square feet, they make the most of their outdoor space, hence the name "Backyard Bikes".
Backyard Bikes was one of Niner's first dealers in the Midwest and they have continued their commitment to Niner riders by keeping a huge fleet of demo and rental bikes in stock. Currently, riders can try the RLT 9, JET 9 RDO and RIP 9 RDO - available in full size runs for each model. They also have the AIR 9 RDO in size small and large for rent.
